Many people think that all Tim Burton movies are the same; clay animated, songs that are stuck in you head for days at a time, and all around family friendly movies. There are two movies, ranking third and fourth in popularity of Tim Burton's movies, that I'll be talking about today; The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride. The Nightmare Before Christmas, a fun movie made for Halloween and Christmas, is about Jack Skellington, the king of Halloween, growing tiresome of doing the same thing every year. He discovers that there are other holidays that people celebrate. Jack then finds out about Christmas and developes an obsession with it. In this movie there are many songs that get stuck in your head, fun, and help to progress the story. Next is Corpse Bride, a story about a young man, Victor Van Dort, who's arranged to marry Victoria Everglot. Victor's family are the town's fish-merchants, who'd just inherited a large sum of money, and Victoria's family used to be rich until their ancetors blew through their wealth, the marriage was to save the Everglots from poverty. Victor can't seem to get his head around the fact he's marry Victoria so everything seems to go wrong. Then, after reciting his vows to no one in particular and putting the ring on a brach, he finds himself married to a corpse. The two go back and forth arguing about their marriage being real or not. Victor finds a way to go to the world of the living and explain to Victoria what's happened. Throughout the movie there are songs but they're mostly used to progress the story. Now onto the comparisons. Nightmare Before Christmas uses more holiday thememed ideas where as Corpse Bride seems more like a just because type movie, not to mention that the songs in Nightmare Before Christmas are more memorable and fun, but are also less story progressing than the songs in Corpse Bride. But overall both movies are great, fun, and well put together.
